Resources for Educators
Hello Educators!
Welcome to your designated space for Sexual health education support. We try our best to provide Sask-specific resources to those facilitating essential conversations across Saskatchewan. We understand educators are faced with unique barriers, such as:
-
Limited training in discussing or teaching 2SLGBTQ+ health
-
Misunderstandings and fear surrounding Bill 137
-
Lacking support from parents or administrators
Our Professional Development Opportunities
Not Just The Tip
The Not Just the Tip (NJTT) Toolkit is a resource guided by three expert advisory councils as a resource to support professionals who work with youth. The toolkit is a multi-year project that implements the knowledge and tools Dr. Nadine Thornhill and other experts have adapted to deliver sexual health education comprehensively.
NJTT supports developing skills to:
Facilitate open and engaging discussions around sexual health.
Address harmful comments and misinformation.
Respond to youth's needs and priorities.
Navigate uncertainty and nuance.
Engage in introspection into their positionality and educator roles.
Apply sex-positive and harm reduction approaches.
By preparing staff to approach sensitive topics more confidently, your workplace fosters a more sustainable approach to addressing sexual health topics with your groups alongside other topics of vulnerability, accountability, power dynamics, etc.
With the NJTT Toolkit, participants are guided through facilitated discussion, organized activities, and practice lessons to ensure actionable development is made to support professionals in vetting resources, responding to youths' questions, and sharing knowledge in a humble and shame free approach.
Planned Parenthood Regina will walk your team through five modules of the toolkit:
1
Decentring Myself
2
